Salou launches the beach season with an enhanced safety operation

Salou. Costa Dorada. 05 July 2026. Salou Town Council has launched its beach surveillance and lifeguard deployment for the bathing season, aiming to strengthen safety along the coastline during the peak visitor months.

More officers and new vehicles

The new initiative includes 24 officers assigned specifically to the coastline, comprising both regular and seasonal police officers, who will carry out surveillance, prevention, and public assistance duties. The Local Police have also introduced new quad bikes to improve mobility both on the sand and on paved roads, helping to reduce response times. The deployment is further boosted by around 20 electric bicycles, enabling officers to move more efficiently along the seafront.

As for the lifeguard and rescue service, Salou maintains a total of 25 lifeguard stations spread across its beaches, making it one of the most extensive beach safety setups on the Catalan coast in terms of both coverage and service duration.

During the launch of the program, Salou's mayor, Pere Granados, highlighted the Town Council's commitment to providing safe and well-equipped beaches. He also stressed that safety ultimately depends on the responsibility of beachgoers and urged visitors to follow the instructions of lifeguard and security personnel to help prevent incidents.

Granados also underlined the municipality's annual investment in public safety. The Local Police force has a staff of 114 officers serving a town of nearly 33,000 residents that welcomes around three million tourists every year. According to the mayor, this influx requires public services to be scaled up to meet the demands of a leading tourist destination while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

The mayor also noted that the latest figures presented at the Local Security Board show an approximate 25% reduction in reported crime, which, he said, confirms that Salou continues to be a safe destination for both residents and visitors.

With these additional resources and personnel, Salou begins the summer season with the goal of ensuring beach safety and providing a service tailored to high tourist demand.
