Salou City Council is taking a major step forward in housing with a clear vision for the future. Following the approval of its first
Pla Local d'Habitatge last April, the municipality has begun work on an amendment to the
POUM to guarantee the construction of 1,636 affordable homes, more than double the number identified as necessary in the local housing assessment.
The initial study set a target of 690 affordable homes over the next six years. While the new
Pla Local d'Habitatge establishes the roadmap to achieve this goal, the amendment to the urban planning framework significantly expands the municipality's capacity to act. The reform provides for the development of protected housing on both urban and developable land, bringing the total to more than 1,600 homes.
Salou Mayor Pere Granados stated that “housing is one of Salou's top social priorities because it directly affects young people, families, workers and everyone who wants to live and build their future in the municipality.” Once the administrative process is completed, the measure will significantly strengthen the municipality's ability to meet local housing demand while ensuring it can respond to both the current and future needs of its residents.
