Salou placed buoys to improve the ecological quality of the beaches

Several beaches on the Costa Dorada have ecological buoys

Salou. Costa Dorada. 12 June 2014.
Salou this summer has 4 green buoys placed on the Ponent beach, after it has been incorporated for the first time and Repsol funded project which also involved the municipalities of Torredembarra, who pioneered, Ametlla de Mar and Altafulla. These buoys serve to delimit the area reserved to the bathroom on the beaches and have significant differences from the concrete traditionally put.

A first difference is that the buoys are removed concrete and placed each year during the summer season, while the ecological are permanent. They also incorporate an innovative intermediate buoy that makes the excess chain buoy floating remains suspended and seabed is not damaged when temporarily. When the summer season ends only need two dive professionals moving to the point where each buoy is to remove the chain from the intermediate to the surface buoy. The rest of the structure remains where it is until the next summer. The buoys are located by a GPS.

The main contribution of these ecological buoys is having a surface coated with calcium carbonate for its design and material, attract marine flora and wildlife at a small reef base. Measured between 1.30 and 2.00 meters high and 1.50 meters wide, and weigh between 800 and 1,600 kg. In addition, these ecological buoys have different ways and include a multitude of pockets, large and small, that become habitable meters for marine species, which find protection and shelter, especially when there are temporary. These ecological buoys, which are unique in the world,
become artificial biotopes that help regenerate the seabed.

In the presentation, the Mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, explained, "We are very pleased to participate for the first time in the project and hope to expand our participation; regenerate life within our shores and increased attractiveness for visitors our coast, "adding that" we value the tourist beaches and incorporate new elements related to nature and the environment, becoming sensitive to the protection of the coast towns. "

Salou Mayor added that "we believe it is an added value to the new tourism brand that we are working as Sports Tourism Destination where the diving, which is a very specialized tourism, it would be a good profile to visit Salou and the entire coastline of the Costa Dorada. " Granados has concluded that "the municipalities, together, we can make the Costa Dorada has more life than now with this element of protection to the environment that values both tourists especially in Northern Europe."

Meanwhile, the communications director of Repsol, Josep Bertran, said that this initiative "is a projection of future not only for the environment but it can be the seed of a beneficial tourism and economic activity for the area."

The presentation ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Torredembarra, Daniel Massagué; Altafulla Mayor Felix Alonso; the first deputy mayor of Ametlla de Mar, Antoni Montagut, and the creator of the buoys and aquatics expert, Miquel Rota, besides the beaches of Salou councilor, Julia Gomez.
