A self-consumption photovoltaic plant for PortAventura World

Salou. Costa Dorada. 12 October 2019. Climate emergency, UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) and corporate corporate responsibility. Three concepts increasingly present in our collective consciousness and that is why companies like the PortAventura World resort are not left out. Specifically, PortAventura has presented an investment of 6 million euros to build a photovoltaic plant to produce self-consumption electricity for the resort, which will have 100,000 square meters (such as 14 soccer fields) and 22,000 photovoltaic panels.

The PortAventura World resort will put this plant into operation in spring 2020 with an installed capacity of 8.5MWp, and expects a third of its electricity consumption to come from the solar energy produced in this facility. With this project, PortAventura hopes to avoid the emission of 4,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the CO2 that 930,000 trees can absorb.

The PortAventura World photovoltaic solar plant project aims to be the largest for self-consumption of a European resort, and is part of the company's commitments aimed at reducing consumption and energy transition, contributing directly to the achievement of the SDGs 7 and 13 of the United Nations, which are the ones that PortAventura World has the greatest impact on.

According to Fernando Aldecoa, general director of PortAventura World, “the photovoltaic plant is a project that acts as a lever to promote change towards a more sustainable and responsible world. This vision allows us to remain at the forefront and continue to be leaders in sustainability among international tourist destinations".
