More than 400,000 people experience the eclipse in Salou

Eclipse

Salou. Costa Dorada. 13 August 2026.

With 100% visibility, Salou was one of the municipalities that welcomed the largest number of people to watch the eclipse on Wednesday, 12 August.

According to official estimates, the more than 200,000 people already staying and spending their holidays in Salou were joined by around 200,000 additional visitors, who filled the entire coastline, including beaches, headlands and coastal outcrops, Camí de Costa, Porroig, Cap Salou and other areas.

The Councillor for Citizen Security, Sebastià Domínguez, and the head of the Local Police, José Luis Gargallo, confirmed that despite the high number of people and the significant mobility generated by the eclipse, no major incidents were reported.

For his part, Salou Mayor Pere Granados highlighted that the municipality had once again demonstrated its experience and ability to organise major events, taking into account the challenges involved in terms of mobility, parking, the deployment of security forces and emergency services, among other aspects.

Granados also pointed out that the eclipse had particular significance in Salou because the phenomenon coincided with the celebration of the Nits Daurades, Salou's main annual festival. This year's programme included numerous activities related to this unique astronomical event: the 12 August eclipse.
