The Music of Central Asia, in Tarragona CaixaForum




Tarragona. Costa Dorada. The music of Central Asia will be the protagonists of the series of filmed music to that degree, we will bring in various musical traditions of this vast and amazing country. The sessions, free entry and free (but limited), will take place on 27, 29 and 30 April 2010 at 7pm and will feature the screening of two documentaries about 25 per session minutes each and will be screened in original version with Spanish subtitles. The Asian character Co-produced by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture and the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage of the prestigious Smithsonian Institution, the series presents some of the leading exponents of different musical traditions of Central Asia, through a high-quality documentaries explore the lives, work and inspiration of a new generation of musicians with great talent and innovative ideas have revitalized this legacy. Some intimate and sometimes poignant portraits that invite us to know a little more depth some fascinating cultures that are still virtually unknown in our eyes. During the Soviet era, many traditions of Central Asian republics were diluted in the artistic and cultural homogeneity imposed from Moscow. Much of the traditional music of these cultures were lost or suffered substantial modifications to suit the tastes and Western models. Since 1991, however, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the musicians of these countries began a path back to its earlier roots in order to recover, preserve and disseminate the treasures of their heritage music.
