Start-up of the lifeguard service on the beaches of Salou

Gathered between municipal representatives and concessionaire company



Salou. Costa Dorada. 25 March 2018. The City Council and the rescue and rescue service concessionaire, Servitur Salvament SL, have held a meeting to specify the details of the 2018 season. The service will be initiated, at a minimal start, during this Easter and will cover only the Levante beach. Four troops will be in charge of this rescue service, which will be deployed in full on May 15, and affecting the rest of the beaches of the municipality. Thirty people will be distributed to the Salouan coastline during the season, while the Holy Week holidays will be four lifeguards that will cover the service.

The meeting between the city council and the company has been attended by the Councilor for Security and Civil Protection, David González, the head of the Local Police, José Luis Gargallo, and the Civil Protection technique, Raquel Fernandez; and Juan Miguel Soriano, manager of the company Servitur Salvament SL.

Until October 15, the rescue personnel will actively monitor the beaches of Salou with fixed bases of rescue in Ponent, Levante; care; and Long Beach and also making rounds for coves that do not have a fixed salvage base.

In addition, in July and August, a lifeguard point in Cala Crancos, specifically in the Triangles building, will be installed, as a third consecutive year, to attend more immediately to any incident that may to have it. In total, there will be 6 relief centers distributed on the beaches of Levante, Poniente, Capellans, Playa Longa and Cala Crancos, which will have them all of a Semi Automatic Defibrillator (DEA), oxygen and spinal tiles, among other equipment necessary.

The service also has five special amphibious chairs for people with reduced mobility (by appointment); an exclusive ambulance to attend to the possible urgencies on the beaches; water scooters; kayaks; rescue boards; an ecological electric bicycle; and two semi-rigid boats to rescue the sea. The service of surveillance starts the service at ten in the morning the turn and ends at eight in the evening in high season.

It should also be noted that flag signs on the bath and the state of the sea will only be available on the beaches where the rescue and rescue service is active; as well as the Blue Flag quality qualification labels, Q of Quality, ISO 14.001; a sign indicating the services that are available on the beach; the demarcation of the bath area of ​​200m; the signaling of public entry and exit channels for boats, in order to protect bathers; and the delimitation of the hammocks area. In addition, in those coves where there will be no lifeguard service or vigilance, such as Cala Vinya, Cala Font, Cala Penya Tallada, Cala Llenguadets and Cala Reguerot del Clavegà, there will be a fixed sign with this indication along with a series of rules of security for the users.

Throughout the season, workshops will be prepared for all types of users in various beaches of the municipality, for children as well as the elderly, on environmental issues and first aid.

Councilor for Safety and Civil Protection, David González, pointed out that "from the City Council we are committed to continue providing a quality service on our beaches, as they are a great tourist asset of the municipality." Gonzalez also wanted to emphasize that "in addition to the thirty people who work during the season to offer the rescue and rescue service, it should be noted that also the beach patrols of the Local Police of Salou are added to ensure the safety of the users".
