Marine itineraries, the new way of tourism in Salou

The activity will be free and will feature specialized monitors

Salou. Costa Dorada. 12 July 2018. Salou wants to take advantage of the attractiveness of its marine ecosystem by means of an activity, a prioress on the Costa Dorada, which consists of swimming along signed marine itineraries. A team of specialized monitors will lead those who want to do this activity, which will be free. The aim is to disseminate the Vias Bravas, marine routes marked for swimming and diving. It is a project supported by the Tourist Board of Salou that aims to promote sport at sea. In this way, the tourist agency is committed to creating a public network of marine and open water itineraries that aims to improve the relationship between man and the sea through the practice of swimming in open water and diving with tube safely , encouraging intimate contact as an awareness formula. These activities will have monitors and will be free. "Our desire is to continue expanding the range of sustainable tourism products and that these itineraries become an international benchmark in their segment and serve to raise awareness of the need to protect the oceans and seas," said Councilor for Tourism, Benet Presas. That is why -he added- "these Vias Braves is a pioneering project in the world in design, planning, signaling and homologation of marine itineraries".

The project, which is to be launched this summer in the municipality - and which has been awarded to the company Vías Braves swimming SL - is a new incentive to sports tourism that already offers the capital of the Costa Dorada - Target certificate in football , sailing and cycling - and allow the safe practice of marine activities such as swimming or snorkelling, forming an innovative, sustainable and quality tourism proposal that adapts to the territory and encourages mobility and, as the councilor pointed out, "helps to diversify and deseasonalise tourism, satisfy an existing demand and promote the destination of the Costa Dorada ". The Board, with the launch of this product also includes a demand that has come from different sports associations to be able to swim in open waters and also by athletes who train for triathlon tests such as those already held in Salou, like the Challenge Salou; besides giving the possibility to the inhabitants of the municipality to enjoy the coasts in another way.

The first two itineraries that will start are, on the one hand, what goes from Cala Cangrejos in Cala Viña with a length of 1040 meters with an estimated duration of between 15 and 22 minutes and suitable both for swimming and for snorkeling . In this you can see the seabed of sand, rock and posidonia and it will be recommended between the months of May to November. The second route will be the Vía Brava between Playa Larga and Playa Capellans with a length of 962 meters and with a seabed and duration similar to the previous route.

Therefore, with this project that is to be launched this summer we want to create and standardize a network of marine itineraries marked and marked by buoys and informative signs that allow swimming in unique spaces; the organization of activities of a recreational, sporting and pedagogical nature for all the public that allows people to approach the sea from a respectful attitude, and, finally, to implement an innovative, sustainable and quality tourism product that adapts the territory and that puts in value unique spaces of its coastline. Environmental actions will also be organized, such as the cleaning of sea beds. This proposal is fully in line with the policy of care and conservation of the coastline of Salou and the environment and its dissemination through the exits along the Ronda route, the actions to clean up the coastline or the recent expansion of spaces included in the way round with the new viewpoint of Cala Morisca, among other actions that the City Council is carrying out.

This new tourist product is already implanted in other places in Catalonia, especially in the Costa Brava and on the coast of Barcelona and Barcelona city and, to date, it has accumulated 23 itineraries; about 25 kilometers of coast marked; It includes 16 municipalities, 2 tourist brands, 500 activities and more than 9,000 users.
